The cleaner does not reach the furthest end of the pool and the hose length is correct.

  • Spins-out is too frequent. Change the Spinout cam to a setting lower than what is presently being used.   Keep adjusting cam setting until the cleaner is able to reach the furthest end of pool.

The cleaner will not escape the corner or spends too much time in it.

  • Use pressure-testing fitting to check the pressure. It should be approximately 27psi.
  • Confirm that both Spinout jets are operating. Contact your Hayward Authorized Phantom dealer for repair.
  • Spinout time may need to be increased.  Change current cam position to the winter mode to increase the length of time the unit is in Spinout.

Cleaner rotates more than ¾ of a turn when it is in Spinout.

  • Use pressure-testing fitting to check the pressure. It should be approximately 27psi.
  • Spinout time needs to be decreased.  Change current cam position to the summer mode to decrease the length of time the unit is in spin-out.
  • Water leak at swivel or rigid pipe connections.

The sweep hose frequently sprays water out of the pool.

  • Sweep hose pressure is too strong. Adjust the sweep hose pressure by rotating the adjustment knob clockwise to decrease the pressure through sweep hose. 

Cleaner moves slowly or not at all.

  • Low pressure. Use pressure-testing fitting to check the pressure. It should be approximately 25psi.+
  • Check the filter screen, located about 2ft from the wall fitting.  Inspect and clean.  If filter screen continually clogs, check pool filter for possible problems that are allowing debris to bypass the filter.
  • Check hose and connection at cleaner head for heavy leakage.  Repair as necessary.
  • Ensure booster pump is properly working. (Check plumbing lines for blockage).
  • Check all hose connections for possible leaks. Also check swivels, replace if necessary.

Cleaner will not spinout.

  • Use pressure-testing fitting to check the pressure. It should be approximately 25psi.
  • Gearbox failure.  Remove the cover and determine if red cam is moving during operation. Make sure all hoses are attached to the gearbox.  If not Contact your Hayward Authorized Viper dealer for repair as the gearbox may need to be replaced.
  • Front, rear or both Spinout hoses may not be connected (inside cleaner head).  Reconnect or contact your Hayward Authorized Viper dealer for repair.
  • Spinout piston in manifold is stuck or damaged.  Contact your Hayward Authorized Viper dealer for repair.

Feed hose tangles.

  • Hose tangles at the head of the cleaner - Feed hose may be too long.  Refer to the product manual for proper hose sizing. The jetted swivel on the hose nearest the cleaner head should reach the furthest point of the pool.
  • Hose floats may not be evenly spaced.   Refer to the product manual for proper placement.  There are three floats in each 10’ section. Floats should be approximately 15” from each end and the third float centered in the 10’ section.
  • Check the float located closest to the head. It should be in the middle of the short hose.
  • Spinouts are too frequent or too long.  Change to a cam with fewer prongs or switch to the summer mode.
  • Hose tangles near the wall – rotate the wall hose connection 180 degrees.
