Will the Aqua Rite™ work on a portable spa?

The Aqua Rite™ chlorinator is specifically designed for use with in-ground pools, and will not work with portable spas or hot tubs due to its high output. We are currently in the process of designing such a system so please check back periodically.

What kind of maintenance do I have to do with this system?

Continue to test the chlorine level of the pool on a weekly basis. Adjust the dial of the Aqua Rite™ chlorinator to adjust more or less chlorine. If there has been a large number of swimmers in the pool or the pool water is cloudy, you can put the Aqua Rite™ chlorinator into "Super Chlorinate" mode where it will automaticially generate the maximum amount of chlorine for 24 hours. The Turbo Cell should be inspected and cleaned if necessary every three months or when starting up the system.

What kind of salt do I use and where can I get it?

Salt is now available at many pool stores. It is the same salt commonly found at home improvement centers nationwide for use with home water conditioners. For more information on salt click the link below.

Can I buy an Aqua Rite™ from the internet?

Hayward highly recommends that you purchase our product through a local Hayward Authorized Pool Builder or Dealer. Improper installations can void warranties and Hayward cannot guarantee that products purchased over the internet are, in fact, new factory fresh, or un-tampered. If you cannot find an Authorized Builder or Dealer in your area please contact one of our local sales representatives and they will be able to assist you in finding a dealer or pool builder near you.

What is the warranty and how do I get warranty service?

The Hayward chlorinators are backed by the best warranty in the industry. All Aqua Rite® and Aqua Trol® systems have a 3 year limited warranty. While the Aqua Logic® system also has a 3 year limited warranty, the accessory products are only covered for 1 year. The details of the warranty have varied slightly over the years and the warranty that applies to your system is the one that was in effect at the time your system was manufactured.

For warranty service simply call the Hayward technical service department at 908-355-7995 (Monday - Friday, 8:00 am - 5:00 pm).

Why doesn’t the salt reading match a tester?

The chlorinator, as well as any tester has a tolerance and when tested, commonly the unit will not read exactly the same as a tester. Most test units as well as the chlorinator have a tolerance of roughly 100-300PPM so seeing readings 400-600 PPM off is common.

Why is there a decimal point in the salt reading (2.70, 3.10, ect.)?

This simply means the unit was switched to read in the metric mode & PPT. Pressing the diagnostic button once will display the temperature in Celsius, with the Celsius temperature displayed, flip the switch to SUPER CHLORINATE, and then back to AUTO and that will force the unit to read Fahrenheit and PPM.

What is “SUPER CHLORINATE”?

The unit will run in 2 separate polarities and continually switch sides as long as the pump continues to run. The desired output percentage dial will tell the chlorinator how long to generate in each polarity, SUPER CHLORINATE simply tells the unit to ignore the dial setting for 24 hours and generate chlorine @ 100% of its capability.

Why do I have to add murriatic acid to the pool?

Murriatic acid helps to control the pH in the pool. If the pH rises too high, adding in murriatic acid will lower pH level to a more tolerable level. Alkalinity helps to keep pH from fluctuating wildly but you will still experience fluctuations regardless.
